Why You Must Visit Guatemala!

Updated: Aug 25, 2018

Guatemala is the Heart of the Mayan people and their culture. There you can live the magic, mystical and ancestral vibe of this ancient civilization. Its history goes back four thousand years, when the Mayan civilization emerged. Guatemala is a country of incredible cultural and natural wealth with an amazing geographic location. The distances from place to place are short, which allows visiting several regions in one trip just like how we did on our trip to this Mayan ancestral ground.

During our trip to this country we were able to visit Guatemala City, Antigua, and San Pedro La Laguna (Lake Atitlan) in just 4 days while it was a quick trip to try to get the most out of the country it was trying but amazing. While in these locations the colorful crafts markets, regional costumes, the hospitality of its people, and the beauty of its natural landscapes that frame volcanoes, lakes, rivers and mountains, engraved Guatemala into our heart and memories.

There on the first day we met our uber driver which took us to a great taco place in the heart of the city. Let me tell you that reaching at 10:30 pm and extremely hungry this man saved our lives and not just that but those tacos were simply delicious and most importantly they were soooo cheap and we love delicious cheap food.

Its cultural and historical heritage can be discovered in every corner of the country and it is simply amazing be able to take in the amazing archaeology. Guatemala hosts the largest number of archaeological sites of the Mayan culture, surrounded by an impressive flora and fauna, which makes them true lungs of humanity. The magic and mystery of the Mayan World subsist in millennial cities such as Tikal, Yaxhá, Aguateca, Mirador, Quiriguá and Q'uma'rkaj among others.

Something we really enjoyed about Guatemala is it's weather. To be honest the weather felt just perfect through our entire trip experiencing light rain for a brief moment followed by a fresh evening temperature. It can be visited at any time of year, its average temperature is 22 degrees Celsius. It has two seasons: the rainy of May-October, and the dry one of November-April. The average in Guatemala City is regularly 19 C º (66.2 F)

Unfortunately our trip was very brief so we tried to take advantage of all we could. Therefore we went from the city to lake atitlan - to Antigua and back to the City. Over 400km in 2-3 days. Very exhausting but totally worth it.

The natural beauty that Guatemala holds are just amazing and the archealogy is beyond spectacular. Been in Guatemala is like jumping through a time hoop and landing back in the 1800s. The towns are very colonial and the people are very friendly. While in Guatemala you will always be able to count on a friendly person to guide you. (must have good judgement). In Antigua something greatly recommended is to take the brief challenge of climbing to the top of the Cerro de la Cruz either at day time or Night time the view is just amazing and is a must go place if visiting as well as the Arco in the middle of the colonial city.

Unfortunately we were unable to visit the great city of Tikal however we have hear great thing about it so we greatly recommend a visit to this location. We would advise that you always look for shuttles to the locations you are planing on visiting. They are cheap, safe, and will get to the locations quick.
