Travel Tips for Newbies

We all dream of travelling, getting to know all the exotic locations of the world, like the pyramids of Egypt, Machu Pichu in Peru, The Aztec Ruins of Mexico or just visiting every beach (usually surfers) or mountain rage (usually hikers) possible and much more. However to be able to plan your dream trip or the one you can afford there are a couple things I recommend doing.

1. Search Where your Countries Embassy is Located

This can be something people usually forget to do assuming they will not needed it, which typically is the case however in case of an emergency like losing your passport it is extremely important that you know where your embassy is located and how you will get there from whatever location you are in.

2. Download on your Phone Airline App

This is a minimal but in our tech-savy culture it is highly recommended since it will avoid the bulk of papers with flight information. With the app for which ever Airline you choose will have an easy way to keep track of all flight information and be able to do online check-in from the comfort of your phone.

3. Be Open Minded

Don't judge the locals and their traditions. It may seem different from what your accustomed to but don't over react in-front of them and don't insult their food, traditions, outfits or etc. For you it is different but for them it is normal. Watch and learn these type of experiences will give you lessons and you might even like it. Therefore be open to the new things you will come across as a visitor.

4. Be Flexible

We always plan for delays and try not to get upset when things inevitably go wrong which will always happen. Patience is extremely important when traveling! On our trip to Guatemala this Year (2018) we had a plan of renting a Car and going to several locations, Unfortunately the plan fell through and we couldn't get the vehicle. Intermediately we had to come up with a plan on how to get to our next location which was from Guatemala City to the San Pedro la Laguna (Lake Atitlan) where our next hotel was booked. So after analyzing several option we came up with the idea of taking an uber all the way there (over 200km) thinking we had no other choice and payed up almost 150$ to a local uber just to find out a day later we could have taken a shuttle for only 10$ each. Therefore guys be flexible plan other things in case your main plan falls through so you do not meet a great disappointment.

5. Make Local Friends

One of the many joys of traveling in my opinion is all the new experiences and friends you come out with. Making friends doesn't come easy to anyone but just start conversation with direction or maybe asking where to go party or a good place to eat. Of course with this you have to be careful on who you ask, but keep in mind that making friends from other countries will always get you great opportunities in the future. Making friends is a joy of life and traveling to a country for a second time will make it even more pleasurable if you have friends in that country cause you will make a connection with them and their culture. Usually the countries we love the most are the ones where we have friends. Cause it feels just a little bit more like home.

5. Pack a Carry on.

This I'm going to recommend you to do without over thinking it. Pack a carry on with some clothes just in case. It has personally never happened to be but on your carry on take some clothes always cause the airline could misplace your luggage, and what would be worse than been in a foreign country with the clothes you wore the last couple hours on the plane. Also take your valuables on your carry on, for example your laptop and camera, money, tooth brush etc, basically all the things that you can't be without on the trip.

6. Review Several Airlines

The flight the single most important thing to book when taking a trip abroad The flight is the fist thing i book since once you have the arrival and departure times you can easily plan all in the middle stuff (the fun stuff). When looking for airplane tickets for a trip i might take about 1-2 months reviewing which destination has the best deals, for this i use several flight search engines.

7. Accommodations options

This is usually one of the most difficult decisions to make especially if you are traveling with other people. My biggest recommendation for this is to either use Airbnb to get your own apartment which in my opinion is a great choice if you go with friends or want your own secluded placewww.airbnb.com/c/jeffr5311, or i'd suggest using booking.com if you are wanting to search great hotel options from cheap to expensive. Booking, com is a great search engine for hotels and loads of options world wide by clicking the link you will receive a discount on your first booking. You can use Airbnb and get a credit on your account on your first booking.
